User Policy

This section describes our policies regarding any person who has an YouOS account.

Privacy

We will never share any personal information you give to YouOS as part of the registration process or any other time. Currently, we only require an e-mail address to register. We will only send you e-mail notifications about YouOS or your YouOS account if you request us to. Your email address will not be accessible to user community developed programs.

In addition, we will never view or share any private data you store on YouOS unless you request us to in the event that your data or account must be recovered for some reason. This policy does not apply to data or content created by applications that are intended for public use. Be aware that certain highly-secure data (like stored accounts) may be tied to your password and may be unrecoverable if you lose your password.

Security

We cannot guarantee that our security will never be breached (nothing is 100% secure), but we will make the maximum effort to ensure your data is safe. This includes your username, password, personal information, and any data you store on YouOS. Your password is encrypted on our servers using a client-side key so we cannot ever see your password. Account password information for other sites is encrypted as well; we cannot access these accounts without your password.

Termination

You may cancel your account at any point. Similarly, YouOS may also cancel your account for any actions that are abusive to our system.

Developer Policy

This section applies to any YouOS user who submits code or applications to YouOS. We're going to keep it simple for now, but as we evolve, we expect to provide more options for developers. For now, our goal is to make it as easy as possible for developers to create their applications.

Ownership of Code

You own the code and applications you create. We have zero ownership of application code developed by you. You may remove your code and applications from YouOS at any point or use your code however you wish.

While we do not own any application code, we would like to ensure that applications developed on YouOS are open. Therefore currently, any code you submit to YouOS immediately becomes available under a license to all users of YouOS that allows them to use and modify your code in their own works on YouOS. This license remains in effect even if you remove your code from YouOS.

By making code free and open-source, we hope to make it easier for developers to learn as much as possible from each other and collaborate to create cool applications. In the near future, we will implement methods of restricting access to your source code.

Legal Issues

Given that you own your code, you are solely responsible for the legal implications of your code and applications. In particular, you should not use application code that does the following:

  • Infringe upon any patent, trademark, or copyright of any party.
  • Use any third-party code that violates the license of that code.
We will inform you of any legal issues about your work that come to our attention, but it is up to you to respond to them.

Objectionable Content

We reserve the right to remove any applications that we determine to be unsuitable for YouOS. In such a case, we will give the code for the application to you and then remove the code and application from YouOS.

API fairness

First party applications written by YouOS will not use any APIs not available to every other YouOS developer. In fact, for the forseeable future, most if not all first party YouOS apps will be open source. First party apps refer to apps written by YouOS employees or official affiliates.
